MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Austria’s Philipp Oswald won the Kremlin Cup 2017 doubles event, BelTA has learned.
On Sunday, 22 October, the Belarusian-Austrian tandem defeated Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Antonio Sancic of Croatia 6-3, 7-5 in the final.
Max Mirnyi made his debut in the Kremlin Cup in 1996. It is the fifth time he has won its doubles event. He won the Moscow tournament together with Australia’s Sandon Stolle (2001), Switzerland’s Roger Federer (2002), India’s Mahesh Bhupathi (2003), and Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny (2005).
This is the 50th ATP doubles champion title for 40-year-old Max Mirnyi.
Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina beat Lithuania’s Ricardas Berankis 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 to claim the victory in the Kremlin Cup 2017 men’s singles event. The women’s event was won by Germany’s Julia Gorges who saw off Russia’s Darya Kasatkina 6-1, 6-2. In the women’s doubles event Hungary’s Timea Babos and Czech’s Andrea Hlavackova claimed the champion title defeating the Amercian-British duet of Nicole Melichar and Anna Smith 6-2, 3-6, 10-3.
