VITEBSK, 1 July (BelTA) – Miory will host its first festival of medieval culture The Legacy of Ancient Mereya on 4-5 July, BelTA learned from the Miory District Executive Committee.
According to the organizers, Mereya is the ancient name of the town of Miory known from the 16th century. The place was first mentioned in chronicles as Mereya’s manor in Braslav District of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. "This is the first festival which, we hope, will become a traditional bright and memorable event of the summer in the district," the organizers said. Miory expects to welcome the historical reconstruction clubs from different parts of Belarus. "The festival will become one of the main events of the City Day celebrations on 4-5 July," the organizers added.
The two-day festival will feature the tournaments of armor-bearers and archers, the knights’ tournament, bugurts (mass jousting fights). The program will also include the Gold Dragon animation game with viewers, a medieval music concert, a master class on medieval dances, a colorful fire show and a rock concert.
