MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) –The Festival of Francophone Amateur Theaters will take place in Minsk Palace of Children and Youth, BelTA learned from the French Embassy in Belarus.
The event will be free and will feature 25 Belarusian amateur theater groups from secondary schools of Minsk, Vitebsk, Orsha, Zhodino, Volkovysk, Grodno, Brest, Rogachev, Novopolotsk, Gomel, Mozyr, Rechitsa, Zhlobin, Krupovo, Borshevka, Bobruisk and Mogilev. All in all the event will feature around 250 participants. Their theater pieces are based on plays by Francophone writers.
The competition program will span two days. The opening ceremony will be held on 28 April, the award ceremony on 29 April.
The Festival of Francophone Amateur Theaters was established in Belarus in 1993. It is held annually in one of the institutions of the Belarusian Education Ministry. Amateur theater groups of secondary schools and gymnasiums present theater pieces based on a work by a single or multiple Francophone authors to the panel of judges. This panel comprises French-language teachers and specialists in theater art.
The goal of the festival is to provide an opportunity to French-learning students to stage a performance in French and encourage students to study the language. Apart from that, the festival is a wonderful opportunity to bring together lovers of theater and the French language.
