MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – Minsk will host the 2020 European Fencing Championships, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Fencing Federation Andrei Gubanov.
The decision was taken at the congress of the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) in Novi Sad, Serbia. According to Andrei Gubanov, the Minsk Palace of Sports will play host to the event. “This center is well known to many teams following the U23 European Fencing Championships. The adult continental forum is larger in scale and the number of participants, so apart from the Palace of Sports, we would like to use the areas of the nearby ice arena of the Dinamo sports school. At the congress in Serbia representatives of other countries unanimously voted for Belarus, which received the right to hold the adult competitions in 2020,” said the deputy chairman of the federation.
The 2019 European Fencing Championships will take place in Dusseldorf, Germany. Over 500 athletes will take part in the sport forum in Minsk in 2020.
