MINSK, 11 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian State University of Physical Education played host to the opening ceremony of the 1st University Powerlifting World Cup on 11 July. Partaking in the competitions will be more than 200 athletes from 17 countries, BelTA has learned.
In the presence of Belarus’ Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister Alexander Dubkovsky and Belarus’ Deputy Education Minister Viktor Yakzhik, President of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) Gaston Parage presented three sets of equipment for powerlifting competitions. Gaston Parage also expressed confidence that the 1st University Powerlifting World Cup that is to complete in Minsk on 16 July will promote the sport in Belarus.
The official website of the Belarusian sport and physical education society Dinamo will offer live broadcast of the competitions.
According to the organizers of the event, the competitions will be a major rehearsal ahead of the World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Minsk in 2017.
