MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – Representatives of 28 countries will take part in the 22nd Minsk International Book Fair to be held from 11 to 15 February, Belarus' Information Minister Liliya Ananich told journalists at a press conference on 3 February, BelTA has learned.
“The Minsk Book Fair will be a large-scale forum opening the new season of international book expos,” Liliya Ananich said. This year’s edition of the fair will gather participants from a record high number of countries. Brazil will partake in the forum for the first time. A delegation of the People’s Republic of China will be guests of honor of the Minsk International Book Fair. A memorandum to perform translations of Chinese and Belarusian literary works in 2015-2020 will be signed during the forum.
The national exposition of the Republic of Belarus will be divided into several themed sections: My Belarus section, encyclopedias, literature, fiction, study materials, and children’s literature.
The Russian Federation will be the largest participant of the fair. Liliya Ananich said that several delegations of Russian writers will visit Minsk during the fair. She also pointed out that from year to year many countries, including Germany, France, and the USA, show strong interest in the event.
The main themes of this year’s edition of the fair will be the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and the Year of Youth declared in Belarus in 2015. The program of the international forum includes a contest of patriotic posters themed around the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory. The organizers of the contest received applications from seven countries.
The central event of the Minsk Book Fair will be the international symposium Writers and Time that will gather litterateurs from 16 countries and will discuss the role of creative intellectuals in the modern globalized world and the role of the writer in the education of young people.
Besides, the winners of the young writers' contest The First Chapter and the 54th national contest The Art of Book will be honored at the forum.
