MINSK, 6 April (BelTA) – Archive documents, letters and minerals of Ignacy Domeyko from the holdings of the Mineralogy Museum of Ecole Nationale Superieure des Mines de Paris (MINES ParisTech) will be displayed in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Embassy in France.
Ambassador of Belarus to France, Permanent Representative of Belarus to UNESCO Pavel Latushko visited MINES ParisTech and its museum to study the archive records about Ignacy Domeyko, his personal letters and the minerals that he donated to MINES ParisTech. The diplomat got acquainted with the mineral Domeykite named in honor of the Belarusian-born geologist and mineralogist. “An agreement was reached to organize an exhibition of archive documents, personal letters and minerals of Ignacy Domeyko in Belarus,” the press service said.
Pavel Latushko held talks with the vice president of the university and the curator of the mineralogy museum. Representatives of MINES ParisTech were proud to say that Ignacy Domeyko was their student in 1834-1837. For his part, the Belarusian diplomat told them about the activities conducted in Belarus to preserve the legacy of the renowned fellow countryman whose 200th birthday was celebrated under the auspices of UNESCO.
The parties also discussed the possibility of establishing contacts between the Faculty of Geography of Belarusian State University and MINES ParisTech.
Geologist, mineralogist and traveler Ignacy Domeyko (1802-1889) was born in Niedzwiadka manor near Nesvizh, now Korelichi District, Belarus.
