MINSK, 8 January (BelTA) – Belarusian MAZ-SPORTauto team driver Alexey Vishnevsky is one of the Top Ten in the Dakar 2019 Stage 1, BelTA has learned.
After the teams presentation in the Peruvian capital of Lima, the teams set off for a 330km starting stage stretching from Lima to Pisco. The special stage route was 84km. KamAZ Eduard Nikolaev topped the truck field with 1:09:05 finishing time. Alexey Vishnevsky was the best of Belarusian racers finishing in 9th, 6:08 behind the winner.
The runner-up of last year’s truck rally Sergey Vyazovich crossed the finish line 14th, with a 10:27 lag. The third crew of MAZ-SPORTauto Alexander Vasilevsky was 17th.
Dakar 2019 Stage 2 will run between the cities of Pisco - San Juan De Marcona. The route is 553km long with the special of 324 km.
The 2019 Dakar race is run solely in Peru over a total of 5,000 kilometers and 11 days. More than half of the route runs through sandy roads with huge dunes and other obstacles.
