MINSK, 22 February (BelTA) – Maryna Slutskaya of Belarus won bronze at the the Grand Slam Tel Aviv 2021 in Israel, BelTA has learned.
In the +78kg weight category the Belarusian defeated Hungary’s Mercedesz Szigetvari and Russia’s Anzhela Gasparian. In the semifinal Maryna Slutskaya lost to France’s Romane Dicko and proved stronger over Germany's Jasmin Grabowski in the bronze-medal bout.
Aliaksandr Vakhaviak of Belarus (+100kg) was close to winning a medal. He defeated Slovenia’s Enej Marinic and Lukas Krpalek of the Czech Republic and lost to Jur Spijkers of the Netherlands.
Defeating Alisher Usupov of Uzbekistan, Aliaksandr Vakhaviak got the right to compete for a bronze medal in the repechage, but 2018 world champion Guram Tushishvili of Georgia proved stronger.
Vadzim Shoka (73kg) and Mikita Sviryd (-100kg) placed seventh in their weight categories. Dzmitry Shershan (66kg) fought in two bouts. Uladzislau Tsiarpitski (+100kg) lost in the opener.
The Belarusian judokas won two medals at the Grand Slam Tel Aviv 2021. Dzmitry Minkou (66kg) won silver in the opening day of the competitions. A total of 244 male and 174 female athletes from 60 countries competed for medals in Tel Aviv.
