Vladimir Skvortsov addressed the organizers and visitors of the exhibition with a welcome speech. He noted that the exhibition dedicated to the 130^th anniversary of Marc Chagall, a great master and Vitebsk native, is a special tribute to the artist’s legacy.

“This exhibition is entitled My Life. For Belarusian natives and citizens, these words have a special touch. This is the title of the book Marc Chagall wrote about the years of his youth in Vitebsk. Marc Chagall Art Center and the Marc Chagall Museum have been set up in this city. Every year they welcome Belarusian visitors as well as tens of thousands of tourists from the CIS and non-CIS countries,” Vladimir Skvortsov said.

He underlined that the celebration of Chagall’s anniversary has become a good tradition in Belarus. These days, the Marc Chagall Museum on Pokrovskaya Street in Vitebsk traditionally hosts various festive events under the common name “At Marc and Bella’s”. The anniversary year has seen especially large-scale celebrations.

The events marking Chagall’s anniversary took part in the Belarusian capital, too. A large contemporary art exhibition entitled “Return of the Image. A dedication to the 130th anniversary of Marc Chagall” was showcased at three venues in Minsk.

“BelTA arranged an exhibition timed to the 25th anniversary of Belarus-Israel relations in cooperation with the embassy in June-July 2017. The exhibition was dedicated to the artist and his legacy and was demonstrated at the Enav cultural center in Tel Aviv,” Vladimir Skvortsov emphasized. “In summer, thanks to a private initiative later supported by the city authorities, a square named in honor of Marc Chagall was opened in Jerusalem. Over 50 years ago Chagall, an honorary citizen of Jerusalem, made unique mosaics and tapestries which now embellish the Knesset and synagogues in Hadassah Medical Center,” the ambassador remarked.

He thanked the organizers of the exhibition for creating a Marc Chagall place in Tel Aviv.
