KRASNOYARSK, 6 March (BelTA) – Maksim Varabei of Belarus finished fifth in the Men Sprint at the 2019 Winter Universiade in Russia’s Krasnoyarsk on 6 March, BelTA has learned.
Maksim Varabei clocked 25:38.5 to place fifth. Gold went to Russia’s Eduard Latypov (25:01.2). His fellow compatriot Dmitry Ivanov took silver in 25:09.9. Bronze was collected by Russia’s Nikita Portshnev (25:11.5).
Belarus’ Ilya Avseyenko finished 8th (26:42.9). Viktar Kryuko did not compete due to an injury.
Belarus has won two gold medals in the Aerials so far.
The Universiade which is running from 2 to 12 March will have 76 medal events in 11 sports: biathlon, Alpine skiing, curling, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ski orienteering, figure skating, freestyle, ice hockey, bandy and short track speed skating. Competing in the sport forum are about 3,000 athletes from more than 50 countries.
