MINSK, 24 October (BelTA) – Belarusian youth activists together with President Aleksandr Lukashenko created the Allee of Generations near the Palace of Independence on 24 October, BelTA has learned.
The ceremony followed the president’s meeting with the Belarusian youth and veterans of the Komsomol movement. The event marked the 105th anniversary of Komsomol and the 10th anniversary of the Palace of Independence.
Before joining the head of state in laying out the symbolic Allee of Generations, the participants of the meeting emphasized that tree planting became a good tradition in Belarus: family allees, Gardens of Hope, forest weeks. Noting the president's special attitude to nature and labor, they asked what was the first tree Aleksandr Lukashenko planted. According to the head of state, he planted so many trees that now it is hard to remember what the first one was. Especially since he was born in the rural area, this was the most everyday activity for rural people. As head of state, Aleksandr Lukashenko regularly takes part in tree planting, including together with his sons.
On the initiative of the president, the grounds around the Palace of Independence have also landscaped with green plantings and an apple orchard. Many trees, which are decades old, were preserved during the construction of the palace, and this was one of the strict requirements of the head of state.
