GRODNO, 19 October (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko shared his impressions of Grodno Oblast as he met with students of Grodno-based universities, BelTA has learned.
The head of state noted that during the Soviet period he went to Grodno Oblast to study best practices. “This was the most advanced, the best region of the Soviet Union. A blooming garden. Being a company head I came here to learn potato growing, grain sowing and getting great harvests,” Alexander Lukashenko added. In his words, Grodno Oblast is still an example for other regions, one of the country’s best places to live.
During the 5th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin was impressed by neat and well-kept fields of Mogilev Oblast. Alexander Lukashenko noted that it was not the best region and invited his Russian counterpart to visit Grodno Oblast.
The president explained why he does not come to Grodno that often. “Indeed, I do not visit Grodno as often as other places, but this is because people do their job well here. However, I often inspect Grodno Oblast, sometimes no one even knows about it. I come here to see how things are with sowing and harvesting,” he said.
Alexander Lukashenko commented on the development of the oblast capital. Grodno has an ‘old city’ quarter, beautiful new neighborhoods. However, an increased focus should be given to refurbishing and landscaping. Another important goal is to create new modern production facilities.
“I am a happy president, because entire Belarus is my homeland. Pieces of my heart are in every corner of the country. Indeed, I was born in the east, I received education here, I was in the military on the western border, in Brest Oblast. I started by election campaign from Grodno Oblast. I also feel great while visiting Gomel Oblast and Vitebsk Oblast.
