DUSHANBE, 15 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko laid a wreath at the Ismoil Somoni Monument in Dushanbe on 15 May, BelTA has learnt.
The memorial complex of national unity of Tajikistan was erected on the Friendship Square in the form of a monument to Ismoil Somoni, a Samanid emir and founder of the first Tajik state. It was unveiled in 1999 on the occasion of the 1,100th anniversary of the Samanid Empire.
The Samanid dynasty ruled in Iran and Central Asia nearly two centuries at the end of the first millennium. In 892 Ismoil Somoni became the founder of the Samanid state by uniting Transoxiana and Khorasan (Central Asia and Afghanistan) into one centralized state.
