Lukashenko lays flowers at Heroes Memorial in Tbilisi

MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko laid flowers at the Heroes Memorial in Tbilisi to start the second day of his official visit to Georgia on 23 March, BelTA informs.

The memorial honors all those who died protecting the territorial integrity of Georgia in 1992-1993. The monument was erected in Heroes Square in Tbilisi. The memorial is 25 meters long and three meters high, with the Eternal Light placed in front of the sculpture. The names of those killed in the event are engraved on three white-marble walls. There is also a sculpture of a woman with a grapevine in her hands to symbolize the people’s grief.

Today, the Belarusian head of state is set to meet with Georgia Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, and also Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi and Metropolitan Bishop of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia Ilia II.

On 22 March, the Belarusian president held talks with his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Margvelashvili in Tbilisi. The parties discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda, the situation in the world and the region. The two heads of state were present at the ceremony to sign the agreements to boost cooperation in education, healthcare, banking sector, agriculture and interregional interaction. The two presidents signed the agreement on cooperation between Belarus and Georgia.

A business forum was held ahead of the Belarusian leader’s official visit to Georgia. About 30 agreements were signed between the economic entities and businessmen of the two countries at the forum.
