KLIMOVICHI, 16 November (BelTA) – Belarusians are rightly proud of the history of Mogilev Oblast, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a solemn ceremony to honor agricultural workers during the Mogilev Oblast Dazhynki harvest festival in Klimovichi on 16 November, BelTA has learned.
"We are rightly proud of the history of our region. The first Belarusian theater was opened in Mogilev in 1888. Its walls remember Chaliapin, Rachmaninoff. In 1956, Mikhail Krivonosov, a native of Mogilev, won the first Belarusian Olympic medal in Melbourne," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
As far as agriculture is concerned, the Gorki Agricultural School, the first agricultural university in Europe, was founded in Mogilev Oblast in 1840. The school is known for the first prototype of a combine harvester and the first scientific-experimental field in the world.
The school has been reorganized into the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy. Nowadays, it is the flagship institution of national agricultural education and a major training center of personnel from the whole country.
"I am definitely planning to visit it in the near future. There is a lot to discuss with future agricultural workers, their professors and young specialists, because this is the most important matter for us," the head of state said.
