GOMEL, 17 June (BelTA) – I am not rooting for any team at the 2016 UEFA European Championship in France, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with the personnel of the confectionery factory Spartak on 17 June, BelTA has learned.
“I keep an eye on major matches. I am not rooting for anyone. I am rooting for good game. I am trying to understand how football is developing now, what the trends are. I am watching it to understand what we need to do to develop football in Belarus and to train the national team,” the President said.
“Now I see only one thing: tactics, strategy, and other things are not enough. There will be no results without tough physical training,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
The President noted that he was also keeping track of modern trends in ice hockey during the IIHF World Championship. “We understand what we need to do. With this in mind, we make serious transformations in the country’s main hockey club and in the national team. We are trying to adapt, to get closer to the level of ice hockey which is now demonstrated by the best teams in the world, for example, by Canadians,” the Belarusian leader said.
