MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) – Two-time Olympic champion Yekaterina Karsten won the 2000m silver at the 2017 European Rowing Championships in Racice, the Czech Republic, BelTA has learned.
Victoria Thornley of the UK clocked 7:34.23 to claim gold. The Belarusian showed the time of 7:34.92. Third was Annekatrin Thiele of Germany with the time of 7:35.79.
Yekaterina Karsten finished fourth at the competitions in Belgrade in early May.
In Czech Racice, Stanislav Shcherbachenya of Belarus clocked 6:52.99 to finish third. The race was won by Ondrej Synek of the Czech Republic, 6:48.13. Second was Damir Martin of Croatia, 6:50.02.
In the women’s eight final the Belarusian team of Inna Nikulina, Tatyana Pigareva, Kseniya Romanovskaya, Anastasia Semenova, Margarita Krechko, Yana Tsupa, Darya Marchenko, Aleksandra Yukhnovich and Yaroslava Pavlovich came in fifth.
The 2017 European Rowing Championships included 21 medal events. Rowers will next compete in Poland in June and Switzerland in July. The 2017 World Rowing Championships will take place in Sarasota, the United States on 23 September – 1 October.
