GRODNO, 8 August (BelTA) – A ‘tomato battle’, competitive eating, a contest for the best tomato dish and many other events will be part of a thematic festival that will take place in Ivye, Grodno Oblast, on 17 August, BelTA learned from the Ivye District Executive Committee.
Ivye-grown tomatoes are well-known outside the region. They are sold all over Belarus and even abroad. Hundreds of families are involved in tomato production in the district. “All the events will be dedicated to one of the symbols of Ivye. We want this festival to be a truly family event offering activities and treats for all,” the Ivye District Executive Committee said.
The festival will start with a theatrical procession along the central streets of the town. The first jar of fresh tomatoes will be pickled on the embankment. A huge tomato sandwich will be cooked, measured and offered to visitors for tasting.
The contest for the biggest tomato and the best tomato dish will be held during the festival. Visitors will be invited to compete in tomato eating. A ‘tomato battle’ will also be in the program.
There will be a food court, music venues, sales outlets, master classes, and tastings. The festival will wrap up with a concert and a disco.
