MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 46 Ilya Ivashka has progressed into the St. Petersburg Open round of Last 16, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian needed an hour and 15 minutes to solve Serbia’s world number 52 Laslo Dere, 6-3, 6-2, in the opener. Ilya Ivashka will face world number 6 Andrei Rublev of Russia for a spot in the quarterfinal.
Belarus’ world number 109 Egor Gerasimov, who reached the main draw through qualifying, will take on world number 56 Mackenzie McDonald of the United States in the round of Last 32.
In the men’s doubles opener Ilya Ivashka and Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik will play Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan and Hugo Nys of Monaco. Belarus’ Andrei Vasilevski and Jonathan Erlich of Israel will take on Brazil’s Bruno Soares and Jamie Murray of the UK.
The hard-court competitions at Sibur Arena will be over on 31 October.
