MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – Iryna Kurachkina of Belarus (57kg) won bronze and the Olympic berth at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships in Nur-Sultan. This is the first medal for Belarus at the ongoing competitions in Kazakhstan, BelTA has learned.
After defeating Russia’s Marina Simonyan 19-8, the Belarusian left no chances for Poland’s Jowita Wrzesien (4-0).
Belarus’ Krystina Fedarashka (62kg) and Maria Mamashuk (68kg) were ousted from contention by Henna Katarina Johansson of Sweden (0-3) and Anna Carmen Schell from Germany (6-8).
In the men’s freestyle wrestling program, Uladzislau Andreyeu (57kg) lost to Iran’s Reza Ahmadali Atrinagharchi, while Niurgun Skriabin (65kg) found no answer to Tulga Tumur Ochir from Mongolia.
