VITEBSK, 24 July (BelTA) – The 25th International Chagall Readings that are due in Vitebsk on 25-26 July will gather researchers from five countries, Director of the Marc Chagall Museum in Vitebsk Irina Voronova told BelTA.
The Marc Chagall Art Center will play host to a conference that will see 14 researchers from Belarus, Russia, Latvia, Japan, the United States. The main focus of the reports will be on the research of Marc Chagall’s epistolary heritage, the opening of the art school in Vitebsk, the last years of the artist’s life in Russia and his stay in the United States. A part of the reports will highlight Chagall’s creative heritage, the life and creativity of his contemporaries.
A video film telling about the unveiling of the memorial plaque to the artist in Saint Petersburg on 28 March 2014 will be screened during the Readings.
The International Chagall Readings is an annual event in Vitebsk, which was first held in 1991. Over the time the conference was attended by dozens of researchers from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, France, the UK, Switzerland, the United States, Israel, Germany, Latvia and other countries. The majority of materials produced at the Readings (more than 70 reports) were published in three issues of the Chagall Collection and the Marc Chagall Museum Bulletin.
This year’s scientific conference will be held as part of a large-scale cultural project Wedding Extravaganza ‘Lovers Over the Town’ dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the wedding of Marc Chagall and Bella Rosenfeld.
