MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – The International Association of Academies of Sciences will celebrate its 25th anniversary in Minsk with a number of events. A session of the committee in charge of organizing the celebrations took place in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), the NASB press service told BelTA.
The main events are supposed to take place at premises of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 20-21 September 2018. Heads of academies of sciences of the CIS states and leading foreign academies, prominent scientists will come to Minsk for the event.
The organizing committee discussed the plan for the festivities in detail. The organization of a jubilee session of the International Association of Academies of Sciences was discussed as well as the organization of an international conference on interaction between academies in correlation with challenges of the modern world. Participants of the session also discussed the organization of sessions of scientific boards of the International Association of Academies of Sciences. The festive logo and peculiarities of anniversary souvenirs were also discussed. The draft of an anniversary lapel badge was examined.
Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov noted that the organization of the anniversary celebrations represents the recognition of accomplishments of Belarusian science. He urged to do everything to properly organize the anniversary session of the International Association of Academies of Sciences.
The International Association of Academies of Sciences (IAAS) aims to pool efforts of scientists and offer assistance with resolving the most common scientific problems concerning the development of the society. The association also aims to unite fundamental research, agree the research policies of the academies of sciences, support the most promising research projects, and coordinate the use of unique and expensive equipment. The association comprises 13 full-fledged members and six associated ones. As many as 17 scientific boards on libraries, biomedicine, botany, geography, geodesy and geophysics, history, energy sources, book publishing, math, science studies, intellectual property protection, physics, physiology, and fundamental materials of electronic equipment operate as part of the International Association of Academies of Sciences.
