IAAF president to help inaugurate Dinamo Stadium in Minsk

MINSK, 12 June (BelTA) – President of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Sebastian Coe will take part in the ceremony to inaugurate the Dinamo Stadium in Minsk on 21 June, the press service of the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry told BelTA.

The colorful show will be held exactly one year before the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019.

An offsite government conference was held by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vasily Zharko in the stadium on 12 June to discuss the completion of the stadium’s reconstruction. Sports and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk, Culture Minister Yuri Bondar, Healthcare Minister Valery Malashko, Minsk Vice Mayor Igor Yurkevich, and Dinamo Stadium Director Vasily Alekseyenko took part in the conference.

Vasily Zharko heard out reports on progress of the work and proposals concerning the stadium’s festive opening ceremony. Aleksei Zadkov, the man in charge of supervising the ceremony’s staging and production team, informed those present about the concept for the opening ceremony. Not all the details were revealed but the organizers promised it will be a celebration to remember. Spectators will be able to see some capabilities of the universal sport arena on 21 June.

Students of youth sport schools from Minsk and all the oblasts will be the first to take to the stadium’s race track. President of the International Association of Athletics Federations Sebastian Coe and the 100 meter Olympic dash champion Yulia Nesterenko will give a start to a 4x100 meter relay race for the youth sport school students.

After that the spectators will witness an unusual match featuring the country’s best football players. A parade of athletes, who will participate in a field-and-track tournament among teams from Belarus, Ukraine, Baltic states, and Balkan states in the Dinamo Stadium on 22 June, will take place as part of the opening ceremony.

The Dinamo Stadium opening ceremony will end with festive fireworks.
