Grodno Religion History Museum to present Orthodox Easter exhibition in Warsaw

GRODNO, 6 April (BelTA) – The Grodno Religion History Museum will present an exhibition dedicated to the Orthodox Easter in Warsaw, representatives of the museum administration told BelTA.

The exhibition will take place in the Saint Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Culture Center in Warsaw on 23 April – 13 May. The exhibition will feature exhibits from the museum’s seldom displayed stock to highlight Orthodox Easter traditions. A series of icons will be delivered to Warsaw as well as items relating to folk traditions such as homemade towels, baking forms, ceramic bowls, and clothes. The exhibits date back to the early 19th — early 20th centuries.

The event has been organized thanks to cooperation between the Grodno Religion History Museum and the Belarusian Culture Center under the Embassy of Belarus in Poland. Orthodox Metropolitan of Warsaw and All Poland Sawa and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Poland Alexander Averyanov will take part in the exhibition’s opening ceremony.

The Grodno Religion History Museum vigorously promotes international exhibition projects at its own premises and advertises museum collections of its own abroad. Some of the museum’s exhibits are now on display in Lithuania. Other joint international exhibition projects involving Lithuania and Poland have been planned. The work contributes to the mutual enrichment of various cultures, the integration of the Belarusian national culture into the international culture and information space, explained the museum representatives.

The Grodno Religion History Museum represents the past and the present of religions in Belarus on a large scale. The museum is located in an ancient palace that was owned by nobility in the past. At present the museum offers two permanent exhibitions. One of them tells the story of the palace and the way of life of the gentry while the other one is dedicated to the museum’s core area of expertise. The museum’s main collection includes about 66,000 exhibits while the scientific auxiliary collection comprises about 18,500 exhibits.
