MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) - The Great British Festival in Minsk on 23 June will offer 14 themed zones, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Belarus Fionna Gibb told the media, BelTA has learned.
Like in the past year, the main events of the Great British Festival will be held in the Upper Town and Zybitskaya Street. Organizers are planning themed zones with different photo locations, activities, food courts and an extensive music program. On this day every corner of the Upper Town will present British culture. By tradition, the festival will open with a show of pipers of the Royal Irish Regiment who will march from the UK Embassy towards the Minsk Town Hall.
Ambassador Fionna Gibb said that this year's festival will be larger as it will be co-located with the 2nd European Games. Therefore, Minsk should expect a large number of guests from the UK: athletes, fans, musicians and designers.
According to the diplomat, this year the festival will highlight the environment. The UK Embassy is making every effort to reduce the use of plastic. The festival will offer interactive environmental master classes, and each of the zones will set up containers for separate waste collection. Interactive containers will teach children to sort garbage a fun way.
In the education zone visitors will get a chance to check their knowledge of the English language and learn about education programs in the UK. In the literature zone English writer Nigel Roberts will present his travel guide book on Belarus and share his impressions of the country. English works translated into Belarusian will make their debut at the festival.
The Kupala Theater will present a show of mini plays. The program will also feature a batleika performance from the people’s puppet theater KapyalyuSH and the puppet play Punch and Judy by teacher and actor Robert Styles. The Art zone in Zybitskaya Street will feature the UK-themed graffiti event. Scottish infantry has been chosen for historical reenactment.
Designers of the Fashion Scout project (London) will display their collections on the main stage of the festival. The British showroom will present new makes of Bentley and Land Rover and showcase vintage cars.
The Charity zone will feature about 40 organizations and tell visitors about joint Belarusian-British projects.
Visitors will be entertained by popular British tunes and songs performed by singers of the two countries.
The event is organized by the British Embassy with the support of the Belarusian Culture Ministry.
