MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) – The Maksim Gorky National Academic Drama Theater will go on a tour of Russia’s Kaliningrad in June 2018, theater director Sergei Kovalchik told journalists on 26 March, BelTA has learned.
The tour will be organized in cooperation with Russia’s Federal Center for Support of Touring Activities. From 1 to 3 June, the Belarusian theater will perform the fairy tale Wish upon a Pike and two plays by Andrei Kureichik, Panie Kochanku (My Dear Sir) and Podvodniki (Submariners). According to Sergei Kovalchik, a large Russian theater has held talks on touring in Belarus in September 2018.
He continued to speak about short-term plans. The theater is now working on three new shows. In April, Dmitry Astrakhan and Oleg Danilov will stage another melodrama, The Fourth Planet, which involves virtually the whole theater company. Valentina Yerenkova is working on the play Dangerous Liaisons. Another project is the production of Claude Magnier’s Blaise.
Apart from comedies, the Maksim Gorky Theater plans to stage the novel Anna Karenina. The theater company will try to find approaches to the interpretation of this classic work, Sergei Kovalchik remarked. Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts are expected to join the project. Young directors have come up with interesting ideas that can expand the theater program.
