MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 72 Egor Gerasimov reached the Eastbourne International second round triumphing over world number 83rd Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France, 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 14 minutes, BelTA has learned.
Egor Gerasimov will next face either Kazakhstan’s world number 39 Aleksandr Bublik or Kazakhstan’s world number 106 Mikhail Kukushkin.
Belarus’ world number 87 Ilya Ivashka will take on world number 1133 Alastair Gray of the UK in round one. The Belarusian went through the qualifying round defeating Australian tennis players: John Smith (world number 350) 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) and Max Purcell (world number 283) 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 6-1.
Aryna Sabalenka is to open the Eastborne International against world number 71 Bernarda Pera of the United States.
Belarus’ world number 14 Victoria Azarenka, former world number one, defeated fellow Belarusian Yuliya Hatouka, ranked 271, 7-5, 6-0 in the first round of Bad Homburg Open.
