Gerasimov, Donskoy progress to Challenger Shenzhen quarterfinal

MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) – Egor Gerasimov of Belarus continues moving forward at the Challenger Shenzhen in China, BelTA has learned.

After reaching the singles quarterfinal, the Belarusian, paired with Russia’s Evgeny Donskoy, succeeded in the doubles match of Last 16. The Belarusian-Russian duo defeated China’s Xin Gao and Aoran Wang, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. They will next face Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler of Austria for a spot in the semifinal.

In the singles quarterfinal Egor Gerasimov will take on Kazakhstan’s Beibit Zhukayev. Egor Gerasimov defeated world number 200 Li Tu of Australia, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, and then saw off France’s Terence Atmane, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Egor Gerasimov had to go through qualifying to reach the main draw.

In the Hong Kong Open two Belarusian players progressed to the doubles quarterfinal. Belarus’ Lidziya Marozava and Poland’s Katarzyna Piter will play Russia’s Mirra Andreeva and Peyton Stearns of the United States for a place in the semifinal. Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Georgia’s Oksana Kalashnikova will learn their next rivals later.

The tournaments in Shenzhen and Hong Kong will be over on 15 October.
