MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 50 Ilya Ivashka beat world number 78 Benoit Paire of France, 6-3, 7-5, 1-6, 7-5, in two hours and 31 minutes to advance to the French Open 2022 second round, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face world number 37 Cristian Garin of Chile.
Earlier, Belarus’ world number 15 Victoria Azarenka went off to a good start at the French Open 2022 seeing off world number 93 Ana Bogdan of Romania, 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-1), 6-2. The Belarusian will next play world number 65 Andrea Petkovic of Germany. Belarus’ number 47 Aliaksandra Sasnovich defeated China’s Wang Xinyu (77), 6-4, 6-1, in the opener. The Belarusian will next take on world number 12 Emma Raducanu of the UK.
Belarus’ best tennis player Aryna Sabalenka, world number 7, will open against France’s world number 101 Chloe Paquet.
The French Open will be over on 5 June.
