MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – The collected facsimile edition titled as The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna was donated to the National Library of France, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in France.
During a visit to Paris on 16 October Director of the Belarus’ National Library Roman Motulsky met with Sylviane Tarsot-Gillery, the director of the National Library of France, and gave the French library the complete facsimile edition of 20 books printed by Francysk Skaryna. Roman Motulsky briefed his French counterpart on the art of Francysk Skaryna and the work done to prepare and publish the complete set of his books. The parties reached an agreement that France will assist Belarus with the development of a digital library similar to the French Gallica.
On the same day Roman Motulsky met with Patrick Montambault, Director of the Library and Archives Department of the National Assembly. The library of the French parliament also received the facsimile edition of Francysk Skaryna’s books. The parties discussed the development of bilateral cooperation and Belarus’ experience in publishing facsimile copies of rare books.
