MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – The international track cycling competitions Grand Prix Minsk 2016 kicked off at Minsk Arena on 18 May. On the first day of the competitions Belarusian cyclists clinched four gold medals, BelTA has learned.
In the women’s scratch race (10km, 40 laps) Inna Savenko of Belarus finished first, with two Polish athletes Natalia Rutkowska and Edyta Jasinska taking silver and bronze medals.
In the men’s scratch event (15km, 60 laps) Anton Muzychkin of Belarus finished ahead of Poland’s Wojciech Pszczolapski and Kazakhstan’s Nikita Panasenko.
In the 4km team pursuit race the Belarusian national team of Yevgeny Korolek, Mikhail Shemetov, Yevgenia Akhramenko, and Gordeya Tishchenko showed the best time finishing ahead of the Minsk Cycling Club team of Roman Romanov, Oleg Agiyevich, Stanislav Bozhkov, Anton Muzychkin. Third was the team from Kazakhstan. The Minsk Cycling Club team of Vladislav Novik, Artyom Zaitsev, Yevgeny Veremchuk won in the men’s 750m sprint. Two Russian teams claimed silver and bronze medals in the event.
The tournament will be over on 20 May. Partaking in the Grand Prix Minsk 2016 are 150 cyclists from 12 countries.
