MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) – In 2015 foreign media showed a growing interest in Belarus-related topics, reads the review of Belarus’ foreign policy and the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2015 posted on the website of the ministry, BelTA has learned.
“In 2015 foreign media showed a growing interest in covering Belarus-related topics. They focused their attention not only on the national and international political life, but also on sporting, cultural and other events. In 2015 the number of foreign journalists with permanent accreditation in Belarus reached 287, up 37% from 2014. As many as 1,592 media representatives got temporary accreditation, up 22%,” the review reads.
Enhancement of Belarus’ international image and attractiveness in terms of trade and economic relations and other areas of cooperation encouraged many countries to set up diplomatic missions on its territory. Today in Belarus there are 46 embassies, 4 divisions of embassies, 2 trade missions, 35 consulates of foreign countries, and 16 representative offices of international organizations. As many as 86 foreign embassies based in Moscow, Vilnius, Warsaw and Kiev are concurrently accredited to Belarus.
Today Belarus has diplomatic missions in 56 countries. In 1994 the figure stood at 22. Taking into account that some Belarus’ ambassadors are concurrently accredited to several countries, Belarus has diplomatic representation in 112 countries while it has diplomatic relations with 174 states.
