MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian youth union BRSM has launched the national patriotic project “Belarus Remembers. Flowers of Great Victory”. The project has kicked off with a dialogue of generations event which was held at the Palace of Culture of Veterans, BelTA has learned.
Taking part in the event were veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the finalists of the national beauty pageant Spring Queen 2019 which will take place in Minsk on 26 April.
“We are gearing up to celebrate great holidays – Victory Day and the 75th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders. Belarusians lived through dramatic times and made a great contribution to the Victory. The country remembers the price it had to pay for peace, it remembers everyone who gave their lives for it on the battlefield and who worked for the Great Victory on the home front. On 23 April, veterans and the BRSM Youth Union launched the national patriotic project “Belarus Remembers. Flowers of Great Victory”. The symbol of the project is a red and green ribbon with an apple tree blossom. The youth proposed this symbol, and we could not but accept it. The Flowers of Victory project reminds us of the days when our country celebrated Great Victory. Back then apple tree blossoms were the symbol of revival and energy as if the nature itself was celebrating the Victory,” Chairman of the Minsk City Organization of Veterans Anatoly Adonyev said.
He noted that the modern youth is forward-thinking, energetic, and sympathetic. He appreciates that the BRSM develops the Good Heart volunteering movement. “The youth take care of veterans and study the history of their ancestors. We commend the youth for respecting the deeds of their grandparents, for willing to help the older generation, who defended our Motherland,” Anatoly Adonyev noted.
According to BRSM Central Committee Secretary Yulia Zinkevich, the Flowers of Great Victory project was initiated by the BRSM Youth Union in 2015. Since then, it has developed into a social action and has brought together hundreds of thousands of people from all over Belarus. “A red and green ribbon with an apple tree blossom has become a symbol of the continuity of generations, from the victors to the modern youth. The project has united all generations of Belarusians, people of various ages and professions. The dialogue of generations event has started with Anatoly Chepikov’s song Flowers of Great Victory performed by the Provokatsia band,” she said.
The participants enjoyed a warm atmosphere of the meeting over a cup of tea. The veterans shared their memories about Belarus’ defense and eventual liberation of the country from Nazi invaders, about the path to Great Victory. The participants sang together popular military songs to an accordion. Following the tradition, the finalists of the beauty pageant gave the veterans sweet boxes with the logo of the project.
