Films from six countries to compete in contest of national film schools at Listapad 2015

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Best works by filmmakers from six countries will compete in the contest of national film schools to be held as part of the 22nd Minsk International Film Festival Listapad, Documentary Films Program Director Irina Demyanova told at a press conference in Minsk on 21 October, BelTA has learned.

This year, the organizers received a record number of applications for the contest of national film schools. The total of 26 short and medium-length films will compete for its prize. Around twenty young directors of documentaries from eight national film schools of Belarus, Russia, Estonia, Czechia, Poland and Cuba will present their works.

Irina Demyanova noted that students of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts traditionally take part in the contest of national film schools. Besides, this year’s list of participants includes representatives of three Russian film schools, namely the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), the Alexander Sokurov's Studio of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University, and the Marina Razbezhkina and Mikhail Ugarov School of Documentary Film and Documentary Theater.

The competition films will be screened at the Mir cinema house on 7 to 9 November.

The contest of national film schools was founded in 2012. Over the years, 46 works by students and graduates of film academies of France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Slovenia, Georgia, Denmark, Italy, Finland, and Belarus were presented within its framework.

The 22nd edition of the Minsk International Film Festival Listapad will take place on 6-13 November. It has been organized by the center of visual and performing arts ART Corporation. The festival was founded by the Belarusian Culture Ministry and the Minsk City Hall with the participation of the Belarusian TV and Radio Company, the national film studio Belarusfilm, and the Belarusian Union of Cinematographers.
