MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – The new leadership of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) praises Belarus’ potential in organizing international tournaments, FIDE Vice President, Chairperson of the Belarusian Chess Federation Anastasia Sorokina told the media in BelTA’s press service on 11 October.
“We always had constructive and business relations with the previous leadership of FIDE. Belarus supported the candidacy of new FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich. In his speech, the president of the World Chess Federation stressed that Belarus is known for its ability to host not only international chess tournaments but also competitions of a larger scale and level,” said Anastasia Sorokina.
In her words, the new FIDE Presidential Board will convene in London in November to discuss tasks and prospects of the World Chess Federation for the near future.
The 2022 World Chess Olympiad will be held in Minsk. Its 2020 edition will be hosted by Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.
