MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – FC Dinamo Minsk have won the Belarus’ Super Cup trophy for the third time in a row, BelTA has learned.
On 4 March, the country’s champion washed out FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk in the opener of the new football season on FC Minsk home ground.
Brest opened the scoring three minutes into the game. Trailing down Shakhtyor produced a number of fast counterattacks but failed to capitalize on any of them. Dinamo Brest scored their second one some 30 minutes later.
In the second half Soligorsk continued to attack and got an advantage in the 49th minute when Artem Milevskiy was sent off the field after the second warning. Through the end of the match, Shakhtyor held the initiative, but failed to fight back, losing their third game for the Super Cup. In 2015 and 2016, the Soligorsk team lost to FC BATE Borisov.
FC BATE Borisov hold seven victories in the Belarus’ Super Cup, with FC Dinamo Brest grabbing three trophies and FC Gomel celebrating the victory once.
