MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – Facebook has acquired the Belarusian developer of the face-swapping application MSQRD, BelTA has learned.
The deal has been reported by Business Insider that quoted representatives of the social network Facebook as saying so. The website vc.ru has been able to talk to the MSQRD project’s mentor and investor Yuri Gursky, who has confirmed the news.
The sum of the deal has not been disclosed. The MSQRD company’s founders Yevgeny Nevgen, Sergei Gonchar, and Yevgeny Zatepyakin will go to work in Facebook’s London office. The application will be available as a standalone service until MSQRD is integrated into the social network. New functionality has been promised.
MSQRD has been recently released for Android as a beta.
The mobile application from the Belarusian developers has become popular with social network users all over the world. It is highly ranked in the App Store in dozens of countries. It is demonstrated by popular TV shows. It is used by celebrities. It has been reported that the MSQRD project has recently raised $1 million in private investments. At present the development team includes 12 people but the number will be increased.
