GOMEL, 3 April (BelTA) – The internationally touring exhibition of the Japanese foundation “Struggling Cities: from Japanese Urban Projects in the 1960s” by Japanese architect and designer Naohiko Hino will open at the Palace of the Rumiantsevs and Paskevichs in Gomel on 3 April, BelTA learned form the director of the palace museum Oksana Toropova.
The opening ceremony will be attended by Japanese Ambassador to Belarus Shigehiro Mimori and officials of the Japanese Embassy in Belarus.
Under the broad theme of architecture and the city, this exhibition takes a fresh look at proposals on the city that were put forward by Japanese architects in the 1960s when Japan saw a flourishing of ideas and activities in that area.
Gomel became the 24th city of the world to see this exhibition. For the first time the exhibition was featured in Shanghai (China) in 2010. For five years it has visited the United States, Canada, France, Slovakia, Slovenia, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, and Croatia. The, the exhibition will travel to Africa.
"Every visitor of the exposition will become a direct participant and a creator thanks to the interactive map of Gomel where he can mark his house, favorite place in the city and a place he would like to change," Oksana Toropova noted.
The exhibition will stay open till 10 May.
