Exhibition celebrating Vasil Bykov’s life and works opens in Minsk

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – The exhibition Vasil Bykov. The Long Road Home celebrating the writer’s life and works and marking the Remembrance Day of Victims of the Great Patriotic War opened at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 20 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the ministry.

The exhibition Vasil Bykov. The Long Road Home is themed around the writer’s last book of the same name. The literary and documentary project has been organized by the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna opened the exhibition and stressed that the name of Belarusian writer Vasil Bykov is known far beyond the country’s borders. His works devoted to the Great Patriotic War occupy a special place in the Belarusian and world literature. They have been translated into 52 languages.

Lidia Makarevich, the director of the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature, pointed out that the first exhibition that ceberated Vasil Bykov’s works had a symbolic title, The Voice of Bykov is Heard Around the World. That event was used as a basis for the current exhibition. Lidia Makarevich stressed that items that the museum received from the writer himself and his wife are of particular value.

The opening ceremony was attended by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Belarus, and others.
