BREST, 29 July (BelTA) – The Eurasia Friendship Express going from South Korea to Germany made a two-hour stop in Brest, BelTA has learned.
The train was welcomed at the Brest railway station by representatives of the Korean diplomatic mission in Belarus led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Yang Joong-mo, Brest Oblast authorities and girls in national costumes with traditional bread and salt.
The Eurasia Friendship Express has been organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Railroad Corporation jointly with the Russian Railways. The train will make a 20-day journey throughout Asia and Europe to make its final stop in Berlin on 2 August. The Korean delegation comprises 196 people. These are Korean high-ranking officials, well-known public figures, MPs, journalists, artists and painters.
According to consular assistant at the Korean Embassy Alexandra Salivonchik, the friendship express has been organized to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two. The major goal of the project is to build a logistics bridge between Asia and Europe. The trip envisages several stops, including in Moscow, Warsaw and Berlin. The cities will host, or have already hosted, various events: conferences, meetings with local authorities, performance of Korean artists. “We pin great hopes on this express. We hope that it will promote the unification of Asia and Europe from the perspective of logistics,” she added.
Only one stop for the Eurasia Friendship Express was envisaged in Belarus. It was required for a track gauge change. The stop lasted two hours. The guests got familiar with the Belarusian culture, including culinary traditions. At the restaurant of the Brest railway station the members of the delegation were treated with a classical European breakfast with the elements of the Belarusian cuisine and fruits.
