MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – The cycling ground of the multi-purpose sport and entertainment center Minsk Arena will play host to the EuroHockey Indoor Club Champions Cup (Women) which kicks off on 19 February, BelTA informs.
The winners of the national championships from eight countries will compete for the main trophy. Belarus will be represented at the tournament by the women’s team Minsk. Many players from the club defended the colors of the Belarusian national team at the EuroHockey Indoor Championships this January. Belarus finished third at the tournament. “Two weeks ago we defended the Belarus’ champion title in indoor hockey and got a good practice. There are a lot of experienced players on the team. We are ready to put up a stout resistance to any of the teams that are also eminent clubs in indoor hockey and hope for scooping the Champions Cup trophy as well,” chief coach of the women’s team Minsk Nikolai Sankovets said.
Belarus will play in Group A against Slavia Praha (on 19 February), the Dutch Kampong (19 February), the German Dusseldorf (on 20 February). Group B will comprise Lithuania’s Gintra, Spain’s Campo de Madrid, Austria’s Arminen and Ukraine’s Sumchanka.
Two best teams from each group will advance into the playoff that will take place on 20 February. Medal games will be held on 21 February.
