MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 78 Egor Gerasimov notched his second win at the 2021 Murray River Open in Melbourne, Australia, BelTA has learned.
In the round of Last 32 the Belarusian saw off Hungary’s world number 55 Marton Fucsovics 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in two hours and 13 minutes. Egor Gerasimov defeated world number 90 Lloyd Harris of South Africa 6-3, 7-5 at the start of the event.
The Belarusian tennis players did not advance to the round of Last 16 at the Gippsland Trophy. World number 7 Aryna Sabalenka lost to Estonia’s world number 94 Kaia Kanepi 1-6, 6-2, 1-6 in the second round. Belarus’ world number 90 Aliaksandra Sasnovich lost to Romania’s world number 79 Irina Begu 7-5, 4-6, 4-6 in the round of Last 32. In the opener the Belarusian beat Ukraine’s world number 148 Lesia Tsurenko 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk secured a win over the U.S. duo of Asia Muhammad and Jessica Pegula, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 at the start of the Yarra Valley Classic doubles event.
