GRODNO, 10 August (BelTA) – Twenty-three world records were broken at the World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship in Grodno, head of the Grodno Oblast Department of the Emergencies Ministry Sergei Shparlo told BelTA.
The World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship in Grodno included four world championships. Athletes set dozens of new world records at them. Thus, the previous record in a hook ladder climb to a training tower was beaten by Anna Starodymova (Russia), Yelena Prishchepova (Belarus), Natalia Gutmanska (Poland) and Belarus’ Yekaterina Bogdanova and Oksana Korevo.
Dmitry Dubitsky of Belarus beat the world record in the same exercise that was set in 2010. The Belarusian women’s junior and youth team clinched gold and set a new world record in the firefighters’ relay race. The junior and youth team from the Czech Republic beat a world record in fire attack deployment. New world records were set by Russia, Poland and Belarus in the final competitions among the women’s junior and youth teams.
The Belarusian teams topped the medal table of the 4th World Men’s Junior Fire and Rescue port Championship, the 2nd Women’s Junior Fire and Rescue Sport Championship and the 2nd Women’s Junior and Youth Fire and Rescue Sport Championship. Belarus finished 5th in the 4th Men’s Junior and Youth Fire and Rescue Sport Championship.
The World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship took place in Grodno on 5-8 August. Partaking in the competitions were representatives of 13 countries. The closing ceremony of the championship at the Neman Stadium was attended by Belarus’ Emergencies Minister Vladimir Vashchenko, Vice Governor of Grodno Oblast Vladimir Deshko, Executive Director of the Presidential Sport Club Andrei Karpovich, Director of the Executive Committee of the International Sport federation of Firefighters and rescuers Andrei Kalinin.
