BREST, 25 July (BelTA) – A delegation of Polish cyclists will visit Brest on 28-29 July, BelTA learned from head of the sports and tourism sector of the Brest City Hall Olesya Okrug.
The oblast center will welcome a group of 110 people who represent the bicycle infrastructure development organization in Lubelskie Province. Guests from Poland will take part in the Brest City Day celebrations. They are expected to conclude an agreement on cooperation with travel agencies and the public association Za Velo-Brest, which envisages the exchange of delegations and best practices. The Polish delegation will study the cycling infrastructure of the city and test the Tourist Brest and Sport Brest routes.
“We are developing the Open Border for Cyclists initiative. The EuroVelo-2 route passes through seven European capitals, but stop at the Varshavsky Most checkpoint and bypasses Brest. It would be great if it does not turn but go through our city. “We are promoting this idea together with our Polish partners. We hope that it will be implemented in the future,” Olesya Okrug said.
Cycling in Brest is getting increasingly popular. Local authorities are making efforts to make the city more comfortable for bicycle fans. “All new residential areas are developed with bicycle infrastructure. The number of bicycle parking places is on a constant increase,” Olesya Okrug added.
