GRODNO, 25 July (BelTA) – The cycling race Neman will take place in the border regions of Poland and Belarus for the 31st time on 25-29 July, BelTA learned from the sports and tourism department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee.
The cycling event traditionally connects Grodno and Bialystok. This time the first stages of the race will be held on the Belarusian side.
“The race has become a significant event in the sporting life of the region. It gathers the best cyclists not only from Poland and Belarus, but also from other countries. This year, for example, taking part in the race will be the teams of Russia and Estonia. The competitions will feature athletes born in 2000-2001,” representatives of the sports and tourism department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee said. About 120 athletes will participate in the race.
On 25 July, Grodno will play host to the official opening of the competition. The Belarusian stages of the race will take place on 26-27 July. The athletes will cross the border on 27 July. The cycling race will complete with staged in the Polish cities of Sokolka and Bialystok.
The start to the cycling race will be given in Sovetskaya Square in Grodno at 16.00 on 26 July. The route will go through Sovetskiye Pogranichniki and Tkatskaya streets. After leaving the city the cyclists will make two rounds via the villages Podlabenye-Ratichi-Ginovichi-Konyukhi-Sofiyevo-Trichi-Tkatskaya street in Grodno and then along Sovetskiye Pogranichniki street will finish in Parizhskaya Kommuna street. In the first half of 27 July the race will take place near the village of Trichi. Later on 27 July the cyclists will move along the route Gorky Street-BLK-Vesennyaya Street-Solomovaya Street-Tkatskaya Street-the village of Ratichi-Ginovichi-Konyukhi-Sofiyevo-Trichi-Tarusichi-Karobchitsy-Brugzi checkpoint.
The event is organized by the sports and tourism department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee of Belarus and the Podlasie Union of Cyclists. The cycling race Neman is held under the aegis of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee and the Grodno City Hall, the authorities of Podlasie Province and Bialystok City Hall.
