CIS Games medals, mascot unveiled in Minsk

MINSK, 6 July (BelTA) - 5 July in Minsk was held under the sign of the 2nd CIS Games. It marked exactly one month before the start of the big festive event. At the Minsk Sports Palace, eminent athletes pressed a symbolic button to start the countdown to the CIS Games. In the afternoon the Minsk Town Hall hosted a ceremony to unveil the Team Belarus outfits, medals and Rysik the Lynx mascot.

The fact that the lynx will become the mascot of the Games, which will kick off in Belarus on 4 August, became known a few months ago. Today it was officially presented in the Minsk Town Hall. The cheerful Rysik the Lynx will also be featured on souvenirs such as plush lynx toys, domestically-made confectionery products, and the Sport and Tourism Ministry assured that there will be no shortage of them.

A guest card of the 2nd CIS Games was also presented in the Minsk Town Hall. Maksim Voropai, the head of the main sport and tourism department of the Minsk City Council, said that its holders will have access to the best museums, hotels, shops and outlets where they can have a snack. This is a plastic card will give its holders discounts in five hundred different establishments.

The 2nd CIS Games will award 1,672 medals with the signature logo. The medals were presented by First Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Aleksandr Dorokhovich. Medal winners will also receive a plush Rysik as a gift. The Games will run events in 20 sports: 3x3 basketball, boxing, volleyball, handball, judo, karate, athletics, futsal, swimming, beach volleyball, beach football, sambo, modern pentathlon, wrestling, archery, shooting, Thai boxing, weightlifting, field hockey and rhythmic gymnastics.

Team Belarus outfits has been designed taking into account the experience gained at the Tokyo Olympics. They were presented by Acting Secretary General of the Belarusian NOC Ksenia Sankovich. When designing the outfits, all the wishes of the athletes were taken into account, because the uniform should be not only stylish but also comfortable. There will be four sets: for the official delegation, medical staff, volunteers and the National Anti-Doping Agency.
