BEIJING, 9 January (BelTA-Xinhua) – Beijing Normal University and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) have set up a joint Belt and Road studies center.

The center will be working to strengthen Chinese-Belarusian contacts, intensify cooperation between China and five member states of the Eurasian Economic Union and speed up the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt, said Professor Hu Biliang, Dean of the Emerging Markets Institute of Beijing Normal University.

The opening ceremony of the center, which took place at Beijing Normal University in late 2017, was attended by Head of the Office of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Piotr Vityaz, Director of Geoinformation Systems Sergei Zolotoi and others.

Piotr Vityaz got Chinese counterparts familiar with the social and economic development of Belarus, placing an accent on the implementation of the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone project.

Belarusian scientists suggested establishing bilateral cooperation in new industrial sectors and training specialists as part of the Belt and Road project. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is interested in establishing the Institute of Oriental Studies with a view to boosting innovative sci-tech development of the Great Stone Industrial Park.

At the opening ceremony of the center Piotr Vityaz was presented with a diploma of a visiting professor at the Emerging Markets Institute of Beijing Normal University.
