MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) – The Christmas charity martial arts tournament for the prizes of Metropolitan Filaret, Honorary Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, will be held at the Belarusian State University of Physical Training on 10 December, BelTA learned from the youth policy department of the Minsk Eparchy of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.
"Last year the tournament was a success. It brought together athletes practicing Karatedo, grappling, and hand-to-hand combat. All participation fees were donated to the psychoneurology care homes of Minsk Oblast and the Bogushevsk care home in Vitebsk Oblast,” the organizers said. In 2014, the project involved the Brotherhood of St. Spiridon of Trimythous (Zaslavl). They organized concerts in care homes and transferred the charity aid.
This year, the Belarusian State University of Physical Training and the youth policy department of the Minsk Eparchy with the assistance of the Traditional Karatedo Federation and the Hand Combat and Mixed Martial Arts Federation are planning to increase the number of participants and the number of the care homes which will get financial assistance. This year the project involves the Foundation of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk. The competitions will be held at the new sports arena of the Belarusian State University of Physical Training.
