MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – Ensembles from five countries will take part in the 11th Michal Kleofas Oginski International Competition of Chamber Ensembles to be held from 1 through 6 November in the Belarusian city of Smorgon, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Culture Ministry.
The event will mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Michal Kleofas Oginski celebrated in 2015.
The list of participants includes 24 ensembles (85 musicians) from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, and Lithuania. The chamber ensembles will compete in two nominations: Ensembles with Piano and Sting Quartet. The nomination Ensembles with Piano is divided into two groups, the first group and the second group. The first group features ensembles whose members are 20 years of age or younger. To compete in the second group, musicians must be 28 years old or younger. The jury of the international competition includes renowned musicians and pedagogues from Russia, Lithuania, Poland, and Belarus. It will be chaired by art director of the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society, Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus Yuri Gildyuk.
Michal Kleofas Oginski (1765-1833) was an eminent politician, musician, and composer. He spent his best years in the Oginski family estate in Zalesye, Smorgon District. Michal Kleofas Oginski wrote many of his pieces there.
